You will never look in the eyes


The world seems to have gone a bit crazy. I mean gone is an understatement. We have been for a while. I am a firm believer that the basic principles of Masonry can and will change the world. If we would only apply them.

While Masonry is not a religion and does not hold to any one specific faith. The Holy Bible is the principle Volume of Sacred Law. That is not to say that others cannot be placed next to it. One of the Lodges I visit regularly also has the Quran and just recently added the Emerald Tablets of Hermes.

But we are told in Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

Please note that man is a short version of humanity. What does that mean? Well, to me, it means all of them. From skin color (we are all different shades of brown), nationality, ethnic background, gender, etc. All of it wrapped up in a nice, neat package called humanity. Oh, excuse me, I am mistaken. I mean my neighbors.

If the GAOTU created humanity, then we are all a bit and piece of that creator. Yes, that means every one of us.

But why were we all made a bit different on the outside? Well, I believe that part of what adds to our strength is our diversity. Yes, on the inside, I believe we are all the same or have the ability to be. Maybe that is why Masonry focuses on the inward man? But that does not mean we ignore the outer?

The point is that if we were created by the GAOTU and we carry his craftsmanship. If you do not see God in those around you, you have missed the beauty of God.

So, how can Masonry resolve all of this when other groups just can't seem to do it? To give a bit of adoration to the creation that is due to the creator. After all, we are his mirror image, and to adore your neighbor is to praise the one who made them.

      Last night at Lodge I was asked to give some Masonic Ed. Not really having much prepared I just talked off the top of my head. I asked the question “Why are we here?” It’s always fair question and should be asked ever time we enter Temple. As Masons we are and should be selfish. I know some will question that. But we are Masons to better ourselves. Or in my opinion should be. We are here to work on who we are, not who we were. The person we were yesterday is gone. Today is all that matters. Living in the moment. Tending our wick so we can be a light to ourselves. But I also said that is Masonry is left in the Temple is will burn out and die. We are the light in a darkened world. By living what we believe we can and do change the World. How that is done is up to the Mason. So go to Temple. Learn the lessons taught there, embrace them, share them. This is the way. Three Classes of Men

        “There are three classes of men; lovers of wisdom, lovers of honor, and lovers of gain.” Plato With in Masonry the number three is important. Three ages of men. Three degrees of enlightenment. Three greater and lesser lights. Now we see three classes of men. To love wisdom is not always easy. It takes digging with in yourself to find knowledge and apply it. Keep what speaks to you and discard what doesn’t. Lovers of honor and keep to high ideals and principles. Keeping to your word. Knowing you are part of the world but you are not the whole of it. If we keep to and love these simple (yet complex ideas) we become lovers of the growth and gain we experience. This is but one of the keys to our beloved Craft. Dark Night of the Soul

  I woke up this morning and was thinking about St. John of The Crosses poem. It was called The Dark Night of the Soul. It is something we all go through and it is normally never pleasant. A time when we question dang near everything and wonder where we really stand with ourselves and the rest of the World. As per the quote below this is a required thing for growth. A time when the GAOTU "breaks us down" to build us back up. “There can be no rebirth without a dark night of the soul, a total annihilation of all that you believed in and thought that you were.”― Hazrat Inayat Khan I will be honest I hate this time of the year. Its dark when I wake up and dark again by about 5:00pm. The light and the sun seem to be in hiding. The warmth is gone and replaced by winters chill and freezing cold.
