Are you there?
Making the light as it comes from within, so dim, so dim...
We are human beings. Yes, we are Masons and have a different outlook and perspective on life, or at least we should. But we are human beings, nonetheless.
We are told the Masonic Institution is designed to make its members wiser, better, and consequently happier.
Wiser comes from taking knowledge and applying it. I have said many times before that wisdom is knowledge plus mileage. In other words, it is a life experience. Better? What defines better? With hope, it is simple math. Taking who you were and adding what you have learned equals a better overall life. Both mundane and within the Masonic community. Happier isn’t that the end goal? To take your experiences, see what works, what doesn’t, measure them by the plumb, Level, and square, and see the results?
So, for the last four years my writings on Masonry have been all “white light and unicorn farts.” But what if a member of your lodge is struggling? What if he is having a rough time of things?
Brotherhood means more, or should, than man that was a great meeting. See you in two weeks. Brotherhood should be that if a brother is having a struggle, you have a struggle. If he is hurt, you feel it too. Maybe not to the level they do. I mean, they are having the experience, but you should feel the effects.
Don’t believe me? Jesus, in his final hours, went to the mount to pray. He took his closest Brothers with him, and in his pain, they slept. He looked and asked, “You could not pray with me for one hour?” He needed them, and they were not there.
This thought is not about me. But, about your lodge in general. Do you have a Brother in pain? Do you have a Brother suffering from an issue? Are you there? Do you feel his pain, and are you willing to reach out to apply the oil that ran down Aaron's head to his situation?
When that friend took a knee and said some sacred words, becoming a Brother, and you witnessed it. He not only swore to you….you swore to him.
Obligations are never one-sided, my Brothers…so I ask again. If you have a Brother in pain. Are you hurting too?
I love you, and may we govern ourselves accordingly.
