Peace, Be Still

Let me throw on my Chaplin’s apron again for a moment. Tonight, I heard something that really got me to think. Let’s crack open a Volume of Sacred Law and let it guide us for a bit.

Tonight, I visited my home Lodge, and we had a really good meeting. A Brother passed his proficiency to the Second Degree, and we will get that work done soon, I am sure.

But it was tonight during Masonic Education that really spoke to me. Our Master is in the middle of a move across state and with it comes the upheavals of a move. But not only that he is a DDGM and a sitting Master. To be honest he has more on his plate than maybe he should. But he has a heart of gold, and you will never hear him complain about much of anything. Why? Because his heart is in his labors. He is a good man, and I am honored to know him.

But during education tonight he talked about Elijah and where was the GAOTU? He referenced a Old Testament verse his reference was 1 Kings 19:1-18. Where Elijah went to a mountain and there were all kinds of turbulence, but God was not in it. Now I know what you are thinking, and I will agree. Where we are the GAOTU is because we are a part of creation and cannot be separated from the Creator. This is true. But do we hear him?

You see sometimes it is so very hard to hear with all the struggles, earthquakes, etc going on. How can you hear a “still small voice” in the midst of such turmoil? You can't.

In the above refence it says that God was in the stillness that came. Does that mean he was not there before? No, it means Elijah could not hear him.

Let me give another example. There was a boat on the sea, and it was being tossed by the water. The sailors were scared and afraid of being overtaken by their situation. Until one stood and said “Peace Be Still”.

Let me give one more. During the building of King Solomons Temple there was no sound of tools to be heard with in the Temple. Now we all know the Temple is our inner self. Wait no tools could be heard? In other words, peace and silence.

We are called to live in the moment and be in peace, to sill our minds and hearts so we can hear that “still small voice”. If we are look at the wind, waves, earthquakes, and floods we lose the focus and miss the voice.

So, Brothers if you are going through a rough time, and aren’t we all. Peace Be Still. Your trials are temporary but your growth from them will be forever.

Thank you Worshipful for your words today. They really gave me something to think about.

I love you and may we govern ourselves accordingly
