Children of God?
I spent the weekend doing spiritual work for my personal
spiritual tradition. There were several things that happened that were a comedy
or errors. I learned a few things I will not and can not go into here. While Masonry is an oath-bound Tradition, so
is my spiritual practice.
While I was out of town, there were a few discussions about
a post and people being “children of God”.
I want to share my thoughts on this for a moment.
No, I am not a Christian, and I have not been shy about that
at all. However, I do my best to honor all people of all faiths. Why? Well,
that answer is pretty simple. I see the
GAOTU as the Great All That Is. In other
words, God. Now I see God as a very
generic term that can only be defined by the person and their relationship with
the Divine. It is so very personal, and should be.
I see the Divine as a single entity in balance between both Masculine
and Feminine forms. Why? It takes both positive and negative energy to bring
about creation. Both in balance; neither is more important than the other. That’s just me….agree….disagree, if you like.
The issue that was occurring was a discussion that “we are
not all children of God”. Let's talk about that for a moment.
Normally, when I write, I reference things from the Christian
Tradition. I was raised in the Christian faith, so I understand it. So, from
that perspective, I will share my thoughts.
Genesis 1:27 - So God created mankind in his own image, in
the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Is it not interesting that the VSL says both male and female
were created in his image? Lets go a bit further
John 1:3 - Through
him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
So, if we hand a Mason a copy of the Holy Bible as a VSL and
tell them to read and adhere to it. The wording of this volume is important. If this is the case, let me ask a simple
question.
We claim Masonry is a “Brotherhood under the Fatherhood of
God”. How and why are not all of creation the children of God, since the VSL
says God created all that is…and so may claim that in order to be a Mason, it
is required that we believe in a Creative God?
No, your faith may not be mine, and that ok. Your
relationship with the Divine may not be the same as mine. That’s ok too.
But that does not mean we are not ALL children of the Divine. Because we are.
I love you and may we govern ourselves accordingly.
