What is your Masonic Inherentice?

It is kind of a running joke in my Lodge that it is not a meeting if I don’t say anything. I did my best to subdue my passions, sit on my hands, and shut up. But I will admit I failed.

Tonight's meeting at my Home Lodge had the theme of “What is your inheritance?”

The setting up of the Temple was beautiful. The way the Master started with “Let there be light,” and he took a candle and lit the officers' candles. Very impressive.

Later in the meeting for Masonic Education, the Past Masters of my Lodge told their stories. We learned about the History and so forth of the Lodge.  How it came to be, and how they preserved the building, even the remodeling of the building. Honestly, they covered a lot of what I was going to mention.

After everything was said and done, I asked to speak. The one common thread I heard from all the stories shared tonight can be summed up in one simple word.  Sacrifice.

I talked to the Lodge and told them that yes, we live in very dark times. No, I did not get political. But they are dark nonetheless. We had Brothers going through personal struggles.  We also have a community that has needs. People are hungry and hurting. We are called by our closing charge, Chaplain's prayer, etc to take Masonry out of the Lodge to those around us.

I shared with them, as I did here, that Masonry is a Verb, not a Noun. It is a thing of action.

I finished with the Past Masters of our Lodge, those passed and those still there, who believed in the members of the Lodge. Not so much the building It is just a place. But those who carried the light of Masonry. Those who lived by its ideas and concepts.

Even though those Past Masters did not know you…and passed before you became a member. They had faith in you. They sacrificed for you.  Just as you will for those you have not met.

So let me answer this real quick…and please take this question back to your lodges. What is your Masonic Inherentice?

In my Lodge, it is faith and sacrifice.

I love you, and may we govern ourselves accordingly.
